A rare opportunity to witness artists at home as Malachy and Liz Doyle, children’s author and artist, Malachy will provide a once off picture book reading at their home Cruit Island in association with Earagail Arts Festival and Liz's paintings will be on show and for sale.

Malachys many popular books, include Tales from Old Ireland and Cillian agus an Ron. Beautifully written children's books, that he will read from during the Open House.  4-8 pm Daily, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th July (the week end of the Altan / Clannad concert).

Liz's recent work includes some sunny, colourful oils and etchings inspired by a Spring holiday in Italy.  Liz has been painting for about 15 years, since she was inspired to do a foundation in art course at Aberystwyth University when her middle daughter was doing her art a level in 1998. She paints mostly in oils, but has recently been experimenting with collage and mixed media. "Ipaint from the inside as well as the outside, drawing my inspiration from the fabulous landscape around us here on Cruit Island, as well as my emotions and experience of life. All our lives are full of layers of overlapping experiences and my work is enriched by this".

Malachy and Liz,s work are available from Erratic Makers, Dungloe and Burtonport  Welcome Centre. Malachy and his wife welcome visitors to their home on July 11-14 (4-8pm) Thursday to Sunday, where you can enjoy their work, their space and hospitality. And a glass or two of something stronger if you're old enough!

Directions
Turn down to Cruit Island opposite the Viking Hotel in Kincasslagh. Follow sign (above) for the golf course. At exactly 0.6 of a mile after crossing the bridge onto the island, in the reeds, take a left turn up a rough track, keeping left, then at the pigs on the gatepost turn left onto a rough driveway and be greeted by 2 friendly dogs! You will recognise the house by the red paintwork and stone facing on the gable.
