"It would be no exaggeration to describe the Connecting Colmcille tour as a cultural feast, which exposed us to archaeology , early Christian history, and fascinating folk lore. The setting for all this was the beautiful Donegal and Derry countryside of the Wild Atlantic Way. Dr Brian Lacey has an encyclopedic knowledge of Colmcille, and this, combined with his boundless enthusiasm and expert communication skills, ensured that there was something for everyone on this trip". Daniel McGhee, Glasgow.
"Thanks again to you Moira, Brian, and our valiant driver Patrick for such an enjoyable holiday in Donegal. Anne - bean an ti in an Stoirin contributed greatly to the success of the week in Gortahork. Connecting Colmcille was a unique experience of the history and culture of Donegal, and the rugged beauty of the landscape. The enthusiasm of Moira's team, Brian, Madgie, and Patrick, brought so much enjoyment to this trip. Go raibh maith agaibh."! Betty Mahoney
"It is a feeling of stepping into a time machine as I heard the history of the kingdoms and Irish people while standing on a hilltop by a thousand year old monastery surrounded by mountains covered in mists, looking out across green valleys of sheep that stretches to the North Atlantic ocean.
The laughter of everyone as we sat in a real thatched cottage sipping tea sharing homemade bread and rhubarb jam by a peat fire is just one of the many memories I made on this trip. I'm coming back Moira and always with mng Venture tours". Alberta Wasden South Carolina.
"I went on the MNG guided tour titled “Connecting Colmcille” from the 9th to 15th August 2015. I really enjoyed this on all the touring days over the period 10th to 14th August inclusive. Each day a tour was taken of a specific area of North West Donegal, and the wider region that include Tory Island and Derry, that was related to St Colmcille’s life from his birth to his emigration to Scotland. Each tour was guided by Dr Brian Lacey who is a leading expert on St Colmcille’s life and his historical and archaeological impact on this region of Ireland. My hotel accommodation was excellent and my travel to all tours was in a comfortable bus coach dedicated for that purpose, both arranged by MNG. In the evening we had dinner after each tour and on some evenings there was a traditional music session in the hotel after the meals there. I was struck by the wonderful accounts of St Colmcille’s influence in this region of Ireland, and the archaeological and historical evidence supporting this. Each day was filled with new travel and new stories related to his presence there, and the journeys by coach were very interesting as it gave me the opportunity to observe the beautiful Donegal landscape and seascape. Dr Brian Lacey’s tutelage on all the sites we visited was of the highest professional standard and also took into account the mysteries and lore associated with these. The whole tour was excellently managed by MNG. I was also blessed to have been accompanied on the tour by very friendly, witty and enthusiastic touring companions and guides.
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in this significant region of Irish history and archaeology, especially associated with St Colmcille, whilst also enjoying the friendliness, fresh air and beauty of this region of Ireland". Gerard Kennedy, Limerick.
