Detailed itinerary of this Sikkim Himalayan Adventure October 2015

Day 1

Arrive at Delhi via international flight and transfer to the hotel.

Check in and spend the afternoon sight seeing and shopping in Delhi. We can use this time to purchase any essentials in preparation for the trek which begins on day 6.

Day 2

Early morning departure from Delhi - Bagdogra – Darjeeling.

Arrive in Bagdogra where we meet our representative and drive by Jeep, towards Darjeeling aka Queen of the hill. Upon arrival we check in to hotel. Evening sightseeing and acclimatize.

That evening we will enjoy a Nepali Dinner together and wake up to amazing views of the Himalayan range.

Day 3

We visit the Himalayan mountaineering institution. Learn of the history of tea in Darjeeling and experience tea picking. We will also visit a Tibetan refugee camp and Chawrasta park.

Day 4

Early morning departure from Darjeeling and proceed to Pelling Hill Top by Jeep. This will be the starting point of the 9 day trek. Check in to Kabur hotel.

Day 5

Visit the Bal Prativa School, a charity school established and run by Mohan - 20% of the cost of the trip goes towards this school.

We will visit a local village and experience Sikkim way of life, we will also visit an ancient monastery called?

Spend the night at the Hotel, the trek will begin the following day.

Day 6

Trekking begins

Pelling to Yuksom - 2 hours drive by jeep, where we will meet the Trekking crew – Guides, cook, horsemen, camp manager and Yaks man.

Here, we will clear our permit with the National Park officer and start trek to Bakhim, where we will camp overnight.

Day 7

Bakhim  - Tshokh (3000 mts/9840 ft) hours? Kms?

The trail from Yuksom starts at the local market and follows the main road towards the North. The trail climbs gently out of the valley and hugs the right bank of the Rathong Chu River, which can be heard thundering through the gorge below. The trail crosses over four bridges to climb steeply towards Northwest to the small Tibetan settlement of Bakhim. Continue for another 3 kms through a Forest of Magnolia and Rhododendron to reach Tshokh.

On arrival, the campsite will be set up for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8

Tshokh - Dzongri (4030 mts/13218 ft) (10 kms/5-6 hrs)

On this day the trail passes through the village of Tshokh and continues to climb North through one of the most beautiful Forests of Rhododendron in the Himalayas to the Alp of Phedang (3650 m) taking around 3 hrs to complete the ascent. We will continue further towards Dzongri for overnight stay in campsite - Dzongri .

Day 9

Rest day & acclimatize at Dzongri

Savour views of the mountain peaks by climbing up to Dzongri Top.

From here you get a panoramic view of Kabru (7353 m), Rathong (6678 m), Kanchenjunga (8534 m), Koktang (6147 m), Pandim (6691 m) and Narsing (5825 m). Towards the west, the Singalila Ridge, which separates Sikkim from Nepal can be seen.

Day 10

Dzongri - Tangsing (3800 mts/ 12464 ft) (10 kms/4-5 hrs)

The trail from Dzongri continues along the right bank of the river towards east. After cresting the hill the path drops into the valley and then crosses the bridge over the Prek Chu River. Its an hour climb from the bridge to Tangsiing (3800 m) located on the slopes of Mt Pandim.

Day 11

Tangsing - Samiti Lake (4500 mts/ 14760 ft) (7 kms/3-4 hrs)

The trail from Tangsiing climbs gently north and follows a stream and alpine meadows. About an hour above Tangsiing we reach Onglathang from where the superb view of the south face of Kanchenjunga can be seen. In order to capture clear views one has to reach Onglathang early. The trail then skirts through a series of glacial moraines before crossing over meadows again, and arrives at the emerald lake at Samiti.

Day 12

Samiti Lake - Goecha La (5002 mts/ 16406 ft)- Samiti Lake (12 kms/6-7 hrs)

The climb to Goecha La begins with a gentle gradient eastwards for about half an hour and then later the steep ascent starts. The trail follows the glacial moraine Northeast and then drops to a dry lake at Zemathang. A tough scramble over rocks and boulders with a rise of 400 meters will bring us on the top of the pass. The pass is formed due to the depression between Pandim and the Kabru spurs. It over looks the Talung Valley and commands a very impressive view of the south face of Kanchejunga. Afternoon return to the Samiti lake.

Day 13

Samiti Lake - Tshokh (14 kms/6-7 hrs)

Start retracing steps towards Tangsiing will take about couple of hours or so. From Tangsiing follow the trail to Kokchorung (3800 m)
Continue descending towards Tsokha by going through a bypass route directly to Tsokha.

Day 14

Tshokh - Yuksom (14 kms/5-6 hrs) - Darjeeling (123 kms 6-7 hrs)

Retrace steps towards Yuksom on the final day of the trek. An easy going trek as the path is mainly downhill.

From here drive to Darjeeling.

Dinner and overnight stay in hotel.

Day 15

Darjeeling - Bagdogra - Delhi (123 kms / 6-7 hrs)

Early morning drive to Bagdogra and take flight for New Delhi same day connecting flight to Agra fort for view of Taj Mahal.

The Taj Mahal is regarded as one of the eight wonders of the world and is built entirely of white marble. Its stunning architectural beauty is beyond adequate description, particularly at dawn and sunset.

Night stay in Taj Mahal hotel.

Day 16

We depart to Jaipur aka "Pink City" by train.

Overnight stay in hotel.

Day 18)

We will a flight back to Delhi.

That night, we will have a farewell dinner in Delhi Darabar.

We depature to dublin.
